Untitled (August 19, 1916)
Grown old, I retire to the hills of my
hometown,
In solitary retreat, my heart is free and
easy.
Seen through the duckweed green, the fish sleep
in peace;
All the plum blossoms have fallen, the birds sing
in sorrow.
In the empty green of remote hills, an old temple
is tucked away,
The grassy plain and distant road disappear into
spring streams.
The trees and ponds daily give me pleasure;
Affluence, achievement and honor, who needs
them?
